What is the Child Care Benefit (CCB) and how do I know if I’m eligible?

The CCB is a payment provided by the Australian Government that covers 24-50 hours of childcare per week. In order to qualify for CCB parents or guardians must:

* Meet Australian residency requirements

* be enrolled/enrolling in an approved childcare centre, such as Pinjarra Early Years Pre-School or Pinjarra Pre-School at Pymble

* Meet child immunisation requirements as set by the government

The amount of CCB you will receive is determined by a number of factors. These include your income, the type of care you are accessing, amount of care you are accessing, number of children in care and whether or not you pass the work, training and study test. We recommend that you contact the FAO on 13 13 16 for the latest information as it can change frequently.

What is the Child Care Rebate (CCR) and how do I know if I am eligible?

The CCR is an assistance program designed to help working families with the cost of childcare. The rebate covers 50% of out-of-pocket expenses not covered by the CCB (up to $7,500 per year per child). In other words, it will help to bridge the gap between your total weekly fees and the amount CCB covers. You can choose to have the rebate paid directly to Pinjarra on a fortnightly basis, thereby reducing your fortnightly fees. Alternatively you can choose to have the rebate paid as a lump sum quarterly into your nominated bank account. There is no means test for the rebate. If you have your child enrolled at Pinjarra (an approved centre) and have passed the work, training and study test then you will be eligible for the CCR. As always though, please check with the FAO for final clarification.

Is Pinjarra a Pre-School or Long Day Care?

Pinjarra is a long day care centre, as we are open from 8am to 6pm. The educational side of long day care centres is sometimes called into question by well-meaning but ill-informed members of the community who have only attended traditional 9am to 3pm pre-school. This can cause parents who have their children at long day care centres to worry that their child is somehow ‘missing out’ on vital skills before school.

At Pinjarra we place as much emphasis on education as we do on ensuring your child is cared for in a safe and nurturing environment. With our highly qualified and experienced team providing the learning programmes (each one led by a university trained Early Childhood Teacher) you can be assured that Pinjarra is preparing your child for school, and preparing them for life.

How do you separate the children into rooms? Will my child’s individual abilities be considered?

Traditionally, many long day care centres separate children into 3 rooms. Usually these are 0-2 years, 2-3 years and 3-5 years. At Pinjarra, our abundance of space enables us to group the children more closely. We have our special Baby Team for our children aged 0-18months in January, in a house behind our main Early Years Pre-School building. Here we also have an outdoor play area where our little ones can play in their own sandpit, and explore their surroundings unencumbered by bigger kids. In our main Early Years Pre-School building, Yellow Room is for our children 18months to 2 and a half in January. Our Blue Room is for 2 and a half to 3 year olds and Red Room is for our 3-4 year olds. Within these age guidelines we will continue to monitor each child’s individual progress and ensure they are in the most suitable room to foster their development.

Children in the final year of pre-school education are usually ready for ‘something a bit more’ and we are able to respond with a transition to Pinjarra Pre-School at Pymble. Here we have teachers who provide a learning program which focuses on preparing your child for their big move to primary school.

What happens if my child is unable to attend Pinjarra on their scheduled day due to being sick or on holidays?

Pinjarra is unable to offer make-up days for absences and you will be invoiced for all your booked days of attendance throughout the year. We ask that you notify us  of any absenses as early as possible via phone or email to assist us with planning effectively.
